CPMC welcomes Norman Goldston of Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Hartford (Connecticut), who will share about a program that supports fathers. The Fatherhood Program provides resources to help fathers gain awareness of the important role they play in their children’s overall social, emotional, mental, physical, and developmental well-being.

Listening and Responding to Concepts of God in the Context of Trauma and Grief

It is natural for patients to question the nature of God in the context of trauma and grief: “Why would God let this happen to me?” “Where is God when I am suffering?” “What kind of a God would allow these tragedies? Responding to these questions effectively not only requires understanding where the patient is coming from religiously and spiritually, but also on you as the Chaplain or caretaker. How does your religious formation, spirituality and personal experience inform your responses to someone’s whose background may be very different than your own? How might your response add to or alleviate the pain of the patient and their family members?

Human Trafficking: Focus on Juveniles (CPMC Town Hall event)

CPMC invites you to a conversation with Felicitas Brugo Onetti, Anti-Trafficking Education and Outreach Coordinator at the Migration and Refugee Services Department at the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops. She will lead a discussion about human trafficking issues that specifically impact juveniles and how ministers can support them, including a discussion of solidarity, trauma-responsive accompaniment, and confidentiality.

Led by Auxiliary Bishop Mario Avilés of the Diocese of Brownsville and Helder Hernandez, Poverty Education & Outreach Coordinator with the Department of Justice, Peace, and Human Development at the USCCB, we will discuss the importance of ministering and being ministered to in a person’s native language. We will also share about formation and education opportunities offered in Spanish at CPMC, presented by our Foundational Training facilitators Aida Bone, Deacon Roman Ramos, and Hermes Silva.
