Preconference Workshop P2
Workshop Level: Intermediate
Rev. Chris D. Ponnet, MA, BCC
Director/Chaplain
Norris Cancer and Keck Medical Center
Los Angeles, CA
Each person/patient we meet has gifts and concerns. Patients come to us from a life context. We, as chaplains, are called to advocate beyond their trauma, illness or even end of life decisions. The Social Justice teaching gives us a faith lenses to consider when we hear those stories. We then try to be an instrument of their personal reflection and story-telling alongside the human story and values of social justice. Non-violence & social justice teachings connect the local with the global.
As a result of this workshop, participants will:
- Reflect on specific patients’ needs/concerns.
- Review the Catholic Social Justice Teaching.
- Leave with a formula for seeing patients concerns in light of the Social Justice Teachings
