April 13-16, 2013 – Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania
2013 Conference Objectives
Pittsburgh is known for its convergence of three rivers: The Monongahela, Allegheny, and Ohio. Sometimes the rivers are calm and easy flowing; other times, the rivers are turbulent and raging. The dynamism of the three rivers creates a new and greater river. Our theme, Three Rivers Converging: A Call to Faith, Identity, and Action invites us to mirror the dynamism of the three rivers on our own journey to be active participants in giving prophetic witness to our call.
Our call engages our identity as a people of faith, chosen and sent forth. We are called to be renewed in Christ Jesus, to hear the gospel anew, and to reclaim our identity as servants of God who continue the healing ministry of Jesus in the name of the Church.
Ours is a call to:
Faith – We are a people of faith. It is this faith, propelled by our baptismal call, that is the grounding and source of who we become. Our faith is a river that moves and motivates us in our ministry.
Identity – We are ministers of the Church and compassionate listeners who provide a healing and caring presence. Our identity is a river that challenges us to claim our roles as Catholics, as professional chaplains and CPE Supervisors, as members of the NACC, and as active participants in the broader society.
Action – Our faith and identity drive us to take what we have learned and use it in the service of our ministry. Action is a river that impels us to make an impact on our environment and to grow spiritually, personally, and professionally.
As the image of the three rivers of Faith, Identity, and Action converge in our call, we embrace the invitation to be ministers of the Church, professional spiritual care providers, and people of hope.
2013 Conference Plenary Speakers
We are happy to announce our 2013 National Conference Plenary Speakers. The committee is so excited to host each of these speakers who will speak specifically to components of our theme:
Three Rivers Converging: A Call to Faith, Identity, and Action. Mark your calendars now for what will be a wonderful conference.

2013 Conference Charity: Operation Safety Net
Each year, the NACC selects a nonprofit agency in the city where we meet to receive a special donation from conference participants. This year, the local agency selected is Operation Safety Net®. During our banquet on Sunday, April 14, we will collect donations from conference participants to present to Operation Safety Net. Cash and Checks will be accepted.
Operation Safety Net is Pittsburgh Mercy Health System’s award-winning, innovative medical and social service outreach program for the unsheltered homeless population in Allegheny County. It strives to address the circumstances which undermine the mental and physical health of persons served by creating avenues for people who are homeless to access the medical and social services that are necessary for them to improve their quality of life.
Since its founding in 1992, Operation Safety Net has reached approximately 10,000 homeless individuals with more than 68,000 visits where they live – in camps along riverbanks, in alleyways, or beneath bridges and highway overpasses – and has successfully helped more than 900 individuals who were once homeless to find homes of their own. In doing so, Operation Safety Net not only assists with providing health care and affordable housing, but also offers this vulnerable population hope, dignity, and a sense of community. Operation Safety Net is part of Pittsburgh Mercy Health System (PMHS) and Catholic Health East, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. To learn more, or to make a donation in support of its important work in the community, visit www.pmhs.org.
For those not attending the conference, donations to Operation Safety Net may be made:
- Via the web, www.pmhs.org. Those donating are encouraged to select “Operation Safety Net” and to note “2013 NACC Conference” in the Comments section of the online donation form.
- By sending a check. Please make checks payable to Pittsburgh Mercy Health System and send to:
PMHS Development
101 Bradford Road, Suite 320
Wexford, PA 15090
Please write OSN in the memo of the check or put a note in with the envelope and we will make certain OSN receives the gift.
