American Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care Bootcamp
An Introduction/Overview for interested and existing Disaster Spiritual Care colleagues
Disaster Spiritual Care (DSC) is an official internal Activity and Function of the American Red Cross. It is activated for local and national disasters including shootings, mass casualty incidents, natural disasters, aviation, transportation disasters that happen locally and nationally across the United States and its Territories. In this special DSC Bootcamp all interested volunteers are invited to learn what is needed to be an American Red Cross Disaster Spiritual Care volunteer. The NACC has long been a trusted and founding partner with the American Red Cross. We depend on the expertise of Board Certified Chaplains to ensure the safe delivery of appropriate and respectful disaster spiritual care to those we serve.
In this bootcamp we will host breakout groups to guide those who may need specific support:
- How to become a volunteer
- Practical tips from veterans on How to Pack your Go-Bag!
- What do I need to do
- Introduction to our new services including serving on the “American Red Cross Virtual Family Assistance Center for Covid Survivors”
- Lessons Learned from recent Disasters of 2021 –
- Surfside Building Collapse in Florida
- Hurricane Ida
- Wildfire responses in the West
- Waukesha Christmas Parade tragedy
- School Shootings and Active Threat responses
Partnering with national humanitarian organizations and cognate partners, our trained network of support is expanding to include a broad network of diverse faith leaders and we deeply value the expertise and experience of Associate and Board Certified Chaplains to support our integrated and collaborative work
If you are interested in supporting the needs of those impacted by disaster and mass casualties, register for this two and a half hour bootcamp. Please note that this is a specialized position and other courses/training will be required for full participation with the American Red Cross.
