About Gonzaga University
The MA in Theology and Leadership was developed to meet the growing need to serve persons who were preparing for, or who were already serving in, a variety of mission and ministerial related fields. With a long and rich history of graduate theological programs which met the needs of students and community as those needs arose, we decided to embark on the track of online learning. Since many of our students hold part or full time jobs while raising families and juggling a variety of life’s challenges we give many students who would not otherwise be able the opportunity to earn their degree while working around their life schedule. We continue our long tradition of building strong community through the cohort model and required onsite visits. A comprehensive portfolio helps students integrate their learning and build an impressive and creative record of their work.
Mission Statement
In the Religious Studies Department, we help our students reflect and think critically about their developing faith through the study of scripture, Christian tradition, and religion in today’s modern world. Our graduate program include courses in scripture, historical and systematic theology, church history, moral theology, spirituality and ministry leadership. We have a strong emphasis on community and formation. In keeping with our University’s Jesuit tradition, we focus on developing the whole person — preparing mind, body and spirit for a future of serving others and advancing the greater good. Our MATL program can lead to vocations in lay ministry, chaplaincy, education, non-profit organizing and many other positions in churches and businesses serving the local community.
