In this webinar, David Pina will explain key points to understand before providing pastoral care to military members. David will highlight similarities across military cultures and clarify the key differences among the five main military branches. He will also offer guidance on how to begin meaningful, faith-based conversations within each branch’s unique culture.

Presenter Information
David Pereira Pina is a former reserve Air Force chaplain who served at five military bases. His career began in 1999 at Scott AFB, where he implemented the ASIST suicide intervention workshop. With an MA in clinical psychology from the University of Houston, he previously worked as a referral therapist for suicidal patients in a Houston drug treatment hospital. He also served 15 years as a Protestant pastor in New Mexico and earned a Master of Divinity from SMU.
In 2002, Pina supported officer candidates near Knoxville until retiring from the military in 2007. He later completed extensive Clinical Pastoral Education at the Seattle VA, including a fellowship in addiction treatment. Since 2018, he has been part of the St. James Cathedral community and has worked with the Archdiocese of Seattle to coach high school student leaders in suicide prevention through the safeTALK program.
