- In response to questions he heard at the National Conference in San Diego, Father Steve Ryan discusses the issue of preserving our Catholic identity. In ‘Catholic Identity has Consequences,' he states "We frequently use the term ‘Catholic Identity' to describe our mission and elements of our ministry, yet we seldom examine its meaning in depth."
- Association News
- Beginning July 1, Susan Cubar assumes editorship of Vision, the publication of the NACC.
- Photo highlights of the NACC Annual Convention, Spiritual Care: Moving Outside the Walls, San Diego, California, April 22-25.
- The Certification Commission met in San Diego: 22 chaplains were certified; three inactive supervisors were recertified; and three supervisors were recertified.
- National Leadership Council Consensus Decision--Standard 520. Upon recommendation of the Certification Commission, the Standards Committee recommends moving the process from Regional Certification Committees (which often do not have representation of a CPE Supervisor) to the NACC National Certification Commission.

- In "The Fragrance of a Good Idea," Father Joseph J. Driscoll invites members to share successful ideas from their Pastoral Care Week celebrations. These will be published in the October issue of Vision and be posted on our web site.
- Special Features
- Helen E. McCabe describes how she deals with chronic arthritic pain, and gives pointers for ministry to those in chronic pain.
- It's time to elect a Treasurer for the NACC, and ballots were included in the Vision mailing to eligible members. Candidates for Treasurer: Father Ron Verhaeghe, currently Treasurer of Region IX; Deacon Hugh Polensky, currently ending a three-year term as Treasurer; and Sister Monica R. Bongert, currently Treasurer/ Secretary of Region V.
- Two NACC members respond to the American Airlines disaster in Little Rock, Arkansas.
- Former NACC president Richard Augustyn addressed the first European Pastoral Conference held in Gdansk, Poland in April.
