The second goal of NACC’s strategic plan aims to promote the profession of chaplaincy with objectives emphasizing strategic partnerships to accomplish this goal (building these strategic partners is also the fourth goal of our plan). Today, June 23rd, I am at the CHA 2008 Assembly in San Diego. This afternoon I am co-presenting with Brian Yanofchick, CHA’s Senior Director Mission and Leadership Development, a workshop that shares some preliminary findings from the CHA/NACC Pastoral Care Survey conducted this past winter. Over 60 participants will be involved in the workshop. Chaplaincy is well represented among them. Click here for the workshop handouts.
At the beginning of the workshop Brian and I will stress the importance of renewing the CHA/NACC partnership in order to advance the professional of spiritual care in all the facilities within which you minister. NACC highly values this partnership and views it as integral to our ability to accomplish our strategic goals.
CHA/NACC Pastoral Care Survey Results being shapedIn May CHA/NACC received the raw data from the Pastoral Care Survey conducted in late winter. A task force has been formed to review the raw data, shape the process for developing and test the survey findings and recommendations. The process will include sharing some preliminary findings at the CHA Assembly today, June 23rd, identifying and making key correlations, further formulating findings, conducting focus groups, and developing a report. Late fall/early winter a full report will be ready. For a glimpse of the CHA workshop PowerPoint go to the CHA website.
SCC Compensation Survey results coming soonAs you know, in May, a compensation survey was sent to most of our members. APC, NACC, NAJC, and ACPE are partnering on this project that targeted full time chaplains. Thanks to all of you who were able to participate. In the next couple weeks we will be receiving a preliminary draft of the report from Reinders Research, the highly respected research firm that conducted the survey for us. We look forward to sharing these results with our members.
Alerting higher education to chaplaincy ministryRecently the NACC office sent out letters and brochures to more than 150 leaders of higher education institutions with programs that potentially have individuals contemplating a future in ministry. The letter highlights the chaplaincy ministry, and alerts the leaders that in August they will be sent more materials to assist them in advising and directing individuals who might want to consider chaplaincy. If you know of a higher education leader who should get such a letter, please contact cbridges@nacc.org.
Between the pages of the next VisionWhen you receive the next edition of Vision you will find a donation envelope for NACC. Please take it out and consider: using it yourself, sharing it with a friend or colleague who appreciates your ministry, or saving it and offering it when someone expresses gratitude for your ministry and asks in some way, “How can I thank you?” Please continue to seek ways to financially support NACC in its mission to promote the spiritual care ministry and serve you. Thank you so much.
Calling all NACC state liaisons!Over the coming weeks, we will continue scheduling conference calls with the new NACC state liaisons. We want to set these in helpful geographical groupings (not necessarily by Episcopal regions). Please view the list of state liaisons, think about your proximity to other states/or areas of states, and contact cbridges@nacc.org or the state liaison to offer your opinion on how best to configure groupings in your area.
