Frequently Asked Questions

Can I have an extension on the time needed for my renewal of certification?

Both chaplains and supervisors can be granted a one-year extension on their renewal of certification, up to two extensions. Note that an extension is given for one year only. If there is need for an additional year, then the person needs to make that request in writing in the designated time frame.

You must send a written request to the national office prior to the expiration date. Failure to request an extension in writing in the appropriate time frame will mean loss of certification.

Note: The Board of Directors of the National Association has approved the establishment of a Renewal of Certification Extension Processing Fee. The fee will be calculated annually at 20% of the Renewal of Certification Fee. This is a policy that will support the level of work generated by requests for extensions at the national office. As the current Renewal of Certification Fee is $125, the Extension Processing Fee that must accompany requests for a one-year extension for Renewal of Certification this year is $25. This fee structure is effective immediately.
